Wimbledon, the FA, the Rugby Football Union, the England and Wales Cricket Board, and the Scottish Professional Football League are among the organizations that have signed the open letter, urging the government to implement certification of a Covid vaccine or negative test to enable fans to return to sporting venues. The trials are set to begin in the coming weeks.
Many of the UK’s top sporting bodies have backed the introduction of Covid passports, which will enable fans to return to stadiums safely in the coming months.
The certificate would state whether an individual had been vaccinated, had a recent negative test, or had developed natural immunity as a result of a positive test during the previous six months.
“All of our sports will see the advantage that a COVID certification process provides in bringing more fans safely back to their sport as soon as possible,” the Football Association, Premier League, and Rugby Football Union wrote in an open letter.
