Much of the criticism on social media in the aftermath of the game centered on Arsenal’s tactics on the day.
In May, the Gunners beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in an improbable triumph by matching Thomas Tuchel’s 3-4-3 shape and attacking his team on the counter.
Mikel Arteta was questioned why he didn’t replicate the same setup this time around after the game, and his response was telling.
“I considered all of the possibilities,” he continued, “but we were also affected by COVID and the crisis earlier in the week.”
“We’ve beaten teams that play three at the back, as well as Chelsea, who play four at the back. They were superior to us today.”
