More alarming details have emerged regarding the harrowing ordeal the Super Eagles are facing at the hands of Libyan authorities ahead of tomorrow’s 2025 AFCON qualifier.
Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface posted on X today, revealing,
“Been at the airport for almost 13 hours no food no wifi no where to sleep African we can do better @caf,”

Super Eagles captain William Ekong added that the squad is stranded at an abandoned airport and that traveling by road is unsafe.
Journalist Tobi Adepoju, accompanying the team, confirmed their dire predicament, sharing a vivid account on X:
“5.10am in Libya. The Nigerian contingent are still stranded and locked at the Al-Abraq airport. 10+ hours at the airport stranded and held hostage. This is crazy.”
Some players have vowed not to play in the match, and numerous Nigerian commentators have suggested that the team should boycott the game in protest.
The Super Eagles’ chartered flight from Uyo was diverted from Benghazi just an hour before its scheduled landing. The team remains at Al-Abraq Airport, located at least three hours by road from Benina, where tomorrow’s match is set to take place.
Last month, Rwanda also reported mistreatment from Libyan authorities prior to their AFCON qualifier against the home team.
