Ademola Lookman has officially handed in a transfer request to Atalanta, confirming his desire to leave the club and join Serie A giants Inter Milan.
The Nigeria international made the announcement via his Instagram page on Sunday, bringing an end to weeks of speculation surrounding his future. Inter recently submitted a €45 million offer, which Atalanta rejected, insisting on a €50 million valuation for their prized forward.
In an emotional statement, Lookman reflected on his three-year journey with the Bergamo-based club, describing his time at Atalanta as “one of the proudest chapters” of his career.
“Winning the Europa League and celebrating with the fans in Dublin gave me goosebumps. I’ve worn the shirt with pride and heart,” Lookman wrote.
“But now, after months of broken promises, I feel I have no choice but to speak out and request a transfer. The club previously assured me they would accept a fair offer. That offer has come, but they’re now blocking the move.”
The 26-year-old forward, who played a crucial role in Atalanta’s historic UEFA Europa League triumph, stated that he had always put the club first, even during private struggles. However, he now feels forced to speak out due to what he termed “poor treatment” and “broken promises.”
Lookman also expressed deep appreciation to the fans, apologizing for how events have unfolded but emphasizing that standing up for what is right has become necessary.
Lookman, who joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, has become a key figure for La Dea. He registered double-digit goals in each of his two full seasons and was widely praised for his dribbling, flair, and match-winning impact.
With Inter Milan eager to bolster their attacking options, Lookman remains a top target, and all eyes will now be on whether Atalanta finally agree to let him leave.
