With injuries having been the major cause for Postecoglou and his squad in recent months—despite his confidence in being able to lead the club to a trophy in 2025—his tenure could now be cut short with a new manager expected to be appointed in the interim.
The defeat at Goodison Park means Postecoglou’s side are now winless in their last six league games, with just one victory in their last 10 league outings stretching as far back as November.
Postecoglou claimed he is ready to fight on over the situation with a rousing post-match message after Merseyside.
“The situation we’re in, will eventually dissipate. I certainly hope and believe it will.”
“We’ll give ourselves the opportunity to get consistency in performance and results. I haven’t lost belief or determination to turn it around and the players showed in the second half they haven’t either,” he said.
Postecoglou signed a four-year contract at Spurs after arriving at the club at the start of the 2023/24 season with its expiry set at June 2027.
Club chairman Daniel Levy would need to strike a settlement over compensation if he opts to sack Postecoglou.
The crucial factor which could decide Postecoglou’s fate is Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semifinal second-leg clash at Liverpool on February 6, after securing a 1-0 win in the first leg.
With Tottenham focused on reaching the final and potentially ending their 17-year wait for a trophy, a change could be viewed as a risk.
