Barcelona coach Xavi is of the opinion that Erling Haaland’s decision to join Manchester City is purely financial.
Recent reports suggest that Manchester City are very close to complete the deal for the highly rated striker, with numerous new outlets reporting that he completed his medical on Monday.
Haaland is expected to join Manchester City for a fee of about £63 million which is the amount on his release clause coupled with a mega wage structure.
Haaland was previously linked to a move to Barcelona, but it seems the club’s financial struggles have put them at a disadvantaged position, with coach Xavi aiming a dig at Manchester City.
“It is very difficult because of the economic situation,” Xavi said this week, suggesting money is the main reason that Haaland is set to join City – but not the only reason.
“I can’t lie to you, that is the reality. I wouldn’t say [it is only down to money]. I will not disrespect other projects.
“We don’t have the only valid project. There are many other successful ones, including City. They have titles and great results and they are great competitors.
“However, in the end, if the move happens, it would be primarily for financial reasons. I have no doubt about that.”
