Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Barcelona cruised to a 4 – 1 victory against Real Sociedad in their first La Liga win of the season.
Lewandowski opened the scoring in the first minute after receiving a superb assist from Alejandro Balde inside the penalty area, but had his effort canceled five minutes later as Alexander Isak equalized with a beautiful lob.
Barca had struggled to extend their lead until coach Xavi Hernandez brought on Raphinha and Ansu Fati in the 64th minute. Ousmane Dembele scored in the 66th minute with Lewandowski adding his second two minutes later. It was then Ansu’s turn in the 79th minute to score and close out the game.
After a summer shopping binge that saw the Catalonia side acquire Lewandowski, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen, and Franck Kessie, coach Xavi had urged “patience” from fans.
That quartet all made their debuts against Rayo, but French defender Jules Kounde is still to be registered by the club after his transfer from Sevilla as they look to overcome financial problems. To avoid losing him for free, Barcelona will be looking to complete his registration before the week is up.
