Chelsea are set to announce RB Salzburg administrator Christoph Freund as sporting director. It is believed that Chelsea and Freund have reached a verbal agreement.

Club owners Todd Boehly – who has occupied the role on an interim basis since the summer, and Behdad Eghbali are impressed with Freund’s shrewdness and ideas.

According to reports, Potter is prepared to collaborate with Freund, and Kyle Macaulay, the new Chelsea coach’s go-to man for recruiting backroom staff.

Many of the RB Salzburg players have developed close relationships with Christoph Freund, and it’s believed that Chelsea’s new owners think that emotional investment complements Potter’s coaching philosophy.

Along with the new Freund, the Blues may still hire a technical director, and Monaco’s Paul Mitchell is still a long-term target.

The quickness with which Boehly and Eghbali are reestablishing the club’s off-field infrastructure is thought to inspire Chelsea’s players.

The Blues players believe that Freund’s anticipated arrival will give Potter the opportunity to focus on tactics and team composition as he works to develop his Stamford Bridge blueprint.

Boehly will be able to concentrate on his role as chairman of Chelsea.
