Sébastien Denis reports that PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo (23) is Manchester United’s priority heading into the upcoming winter transfer window.
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is a huge fan of the player, and wanted to bring him to Old Trafford during the summer. Although a deal was never completed, the Premier League side look set to return for the player in January. However, a deal won’t be cheap.
According to Denis, PSV are asking for €60m, an increase on the €45m fee demanded at the end of the summer transfer window, and a figure that could increase depending on Gakpo’s appearances for the Netherlands in the World Cup. The winger scored in the World Cup opener against Senegal. However, at such a high price, fewer clubs are capable of competing with Manchester United.
Arsenal, meanwhile, continue to follow Gakpo’s performances, but the London side are no longer in pole position. Manchester United have overtaken their Premier League rivals in the race to sign Gakpo, who is seen as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo (37).
