Everton Women’s team have praised Toni Payne and her Super Falcons teammates following Nigeria’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Zambia in the WAFCON 2024 quarter-finals on Friday.
The Falcons delivered a stunning performance with goals from:
Osinachi Ohale (header to open the scoring)
Esther Okoronkwo (her first goal of the tournament)
Chiwendu Ihezuo (third goal of the competition)
Tosin Demehin (powerful header for the fourth)
Folashade Ijamilusi (late stoppage-time strike)
Everton Women reacted to the triumph on X (Twitter), writing:
“A comfortable victory sees Toni Payne’s Nigeria into the semi-finals of #WAFCON2025! Two more to go, Naija!”
Super Falcons Back in Form
Heading into the quarter-finals, the Super Falcons had faced criticism for wastefulness in front of goal, managing just four goals in the group stage compared to Zambia’s six – all scored by Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji.
This time, Nigeria were clinical and ruthless, avenging their 1-0 defeat to Zambia in the 2022 WAFCON third-place playoff.
What’s Next?
Payne and her teammates now await a semi-final showdown against either South Africa or Senegal , who square up in the fourth quarter-final match up.
