Flamingos takes on USA again for World Cup semifinal ticket

High-flying Flamingos of Nigeria look set to battle the USA for a place in the semifinal of this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

With the 4-1 win over New Zealand in their first match, and the 4-0 thrashing of Ecuardo in second matchday, the Flamingos have scooped a maximum six points in their first two matches.

The high-flying women’s u17 team has scored eight goals and conceded only one, which puts them in comfortable position ahead of their final group phase encounter against the host nation Dominican Republic on Tuesday night.

Qualification as winner of group A in the tournament means the flamingoes would face runners-up in group B, which happens to be the USA, reuniting both teams together for the second time in three years.

Both teams also has met in the same round of the competition two years ago in India with the Flamingos acing through on penalties.

The semifinal will be staged on Saturday.

The Flamingos will play their final group game versus hosts Dominican Republic Tuesday midnight.
