Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has announced that he will retire from football at the end of the season. The Celtic goalkeeper confirmed his retirement on Thursday.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper began his career at Shrewsbury Town and made 58 appearances before moving to the city in 2006.
During his time at Manchester City, he was loaned to Birmingham City in the 2009–10 campaign, however, the English international recorded 348 first-team appearances during his 12-year spell at Manchester City.
Joe Hart also had stints on loan at Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool, West Ham and Burnley, before a final stint away from England to Scottish side, Celtic where he eventually confirmed his retirement from football.
“Physically, I feel great, I feel as good as I possibly can do for my age. But I’m aware that time waits for no man and I don’t want my body to be retiring me, so that was one of the key factors, thinking that I can smash through the finish line.”
“Obviously, I’ve thought about this a lot, (there are) loads of key factors that have come into it, I think the right the right time is now I’ve got the clarity of mind.”
“I think the hardest thing for me was once I’d made the decision was to explain that although I intend on finishing from June onwards, I’m so up for it, I’m so still so involved and still so committed.”
The 75-time England cap winner was a two-time Premier League champion with City. He’s also won the league’s Golden Glove for the most clean sheets in four different seasons.
Hart joined Celtic in 2021, and since then, he has contributed to the team’s five trophy victories, including consecutive league wins.
