Kelechi Iheanacho has said he hopes to be fully fit for the kick-off of the new La Liga season after his transfer to Sevilla.
Iheanacho has signed a two-year contract, but admitted he is not yet 100% fit to start or play any part but he is making efforts to be ready for the new season.
“I have had the chance to be doing personal training with a coach. That helps my fitness as well. I’m not far off from where they are 100%, so I’m not far off. Hopefully, I’ll join them soon them and then build the rest of my fitness with them,”
He said in an interview on the official website of Sevilla.
“Hopefully, I’ll be ready to play the first game.”
Sevilla will open their campaign in the new season on August 16 at Las Palmas.
‘Senior Man Kelz’ has joined as a free agent after his contract with Leicester City ran out this summer.
He has been signed as a direct replacement for Morocco striker Youssef En-Nyesri, who has departed for Fenerbache.
Iheanacho said they are two different type of strikers.
“I’ve probably watched him in some games that he plays. I know he’s a great striker. I’ve seen him. He’s explosive and he’s really done well for this football club and he’s gone to another challenge,” he said.
“But obviously, I’m probably a different striker from him. I’m in the Strikers Association, so I wish him all the best of luck in his new club. And hopefully, I will help this team to achieve greater heights.”
Kelechi Iheanacho and Sevilla will hope to improve on a dissapointing campaign last season where they finished 14th with 41 points. Rojiblancos were 19 points away from European places and the record Europa league winners will seek to mix it up with the big boys again this coming season.
