The Lions of England are held to a 1-1 draw by Hungary.

For the first time since September 2012, England was held to a 1-1 draw by Hungary in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley. The 5-3-2 formation used by Gareth Southgate’s side proved difficult to break down. After putting Mason Mount and Phil Foden side by side in midfield with Declan Rice behind them, Three Lions manager Eddie Howe was faced with a selection issue. It was the first time England had not scored in a major tournament qualifying match since 2012. John Stones was outstanding, winning more possessions in the middle and defensive thirds than any of his colleagues. In addition, the Manchester City defender won the most headers and blocked the most shots of anyone in the competition.
