Is Trent Alexander-Arnold now England’s undisputed first-choice right back in the World Cup?

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is less than a month away. Brazil and France are the early favorites for World Cup glory.

England has also been considered a contender. The tournament hosts, Qatar, kick off their campaign against Ecuador on November 20th.

But silverware was undoubtedly the next logical step in Gareth Southgate’s young side’s evolution. However, the recent UEFA Nations League campaign appears to have put those thoughts to rest. Fans have been calling for Southgate’s resignation following a disastrous season in which England failed to win a single game and was humiliated at home and away by Hungary.

Trent was not expected to be at the top of the pecking order, but it was still expected that Walker or James were the number one choices. What a difference a few weeks can make…

Injuries to key players provide an opportunity for Trent.

Key players such as Kyle Walker who left the pitch with a groin injury, Reece James who also limped of the pitch during the Blues’ 2-0 win in the San Siro against AC Milan and Trent was also injured in Liverpool’s recent 3-2 defeat have given Trent the opportunity to play.
