Isak to Liverpool backed by World Cup winner amid £120m transfer talk

Liverpool Eye Record-Breaking Move for Isak

Liverpool have reignited their pursuit of Alexander Isak, with reports suggesting the Reds are considering a Premier League record £120m offer for the Newcastle United striker.

The 25-year-old Swedish forward has been in red-hot form, scoring 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies since 2022. Last season, he bagged 23 goals in 34 Premier League games, his best return yet.

However, Newcastle insist Isak is not for sale, creating a tense standoff as Liverpool look to replace the late Diogo Jota and add more firepower alongside their £100m signing Florian Wirtz.

Leboeuf: “I Would Understand Isak”

Speaking on ESPN, 1998 World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf gave his honest take on the situation, acknowledging how complicated the move would be.

“It’s obvious that you have more chances to win with Liverpool than with Newcastle,” Leboeuf said.

“It’s a tricky situation for Isak. You would be a betrayer for the Magpies and an opportunist, but that’s football. I would completely understand Isak if he decides to go to Liverpool. I would also understand Newcastle fans being so disappointed to lose one of Europe’s best strikers. It’s better if he doesn’t say anything for now.”

Leboeuf’s comments underline the emotional tug-of-war between loyalty to Newcastle and the temptation of joining a bigger title contender like Liverpool.

Liverpool’s Urgent Need for a New No. 9

The Reds’ tragic loss of Diogo Jota has accelerated their search for a top-class striker. While Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike is also on their radar, no formal approach has been made.

With Newcastle holding firm, Isak’s decision could shape the Premier League title race and potentially shatter transfer records.
