Kevin De Bruyne has an impressive track record against Arsenal, with Manchester City winning 11 of his 14 matches against the Gunners since his debut in December 2015.
The Belgian playmaker has scored eight goals and provided four assists during this period, showcasing his dominance over a previously soft bellied rival.
Despite a long-awaited 1-0 victory for Arsenal last season while De Bruyne was recovering from hamstring surgery, he now faces uncertainty ahead of their upcoming match at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. He suffered an impact injury during a UEFA Champions League match against Inter Milan and was substituted at halftime. Pep Guardiola reported that while De Bruyne feels slightly better, he remains a doubt for the match.
“He feels today a little bit better, but [he is not ready] yet,”
“Two days off, tomorrow training and we will see.” Guardiola said
If De Bruyne cannot play, Guardiola has several options for his attacking midfield. Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden are likely to start on the right, while Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovacic could fill the left side. Given Guardiola’s emphasis on possession and circulation, Grealish is expected to play a key role, potentially partnering with Kovacic in the midfield.
As City prepares for this crucial encounter, the absence of their star midfielder could significantly impact their strategy against a resolute Arsenal side yet to lose away from home in the PL in 2024. The Gunners have started the season slowly and notably will be without midfield maestro and captain, Martin Odegaard for the trip to the Etihad.
