The France and Paris Saint-Germain forward has openly stated that his lifelong dream and ambition is to win the Ballon d’Or, despite initially admitting he was only ready to help Neymar win the award.
The 23-year-old completed his transfer to the Parisien club in the summer of 2018 in a deal worth over €180 million from Monaco after a year-long loan move the previous season. Upon arrival at the Paris side, the teenager who joined from Monaco had fully expressed his desires were to do everything in his power to help his colleague and teammate, Neymar in succeeding as the winner of the most prestigious individual award.
When asked if he was thinking about winning the Ballon d’Or, Mbappe told Le Parisien: “No. I already have a team-mate who can win it. So, individually, my goal is to score a lot of goals and help Neymar.”
“He can help us raise a lot of trophies, so we have to take care of him. I will do everything to help him win this Ballon d’Or. It would make me happy, if I could help him like that.”
It may seem he has now built an ambition for himself which inadvertently means he may not be interested in how his colleague succeeds, seeing how important the award is to him.
During a recent interview with France Football via L’Équipe, the former Monaco man spoke in depth about the Ballon d’Or and his desire to win the most prestigious individual award in football.
”I want to win the Ballon d’Or very soon. Like many. Except that there are perhaps not many who dare to admit it. “I’m still convinced that the hardest thing is to win the first.”
Mbappe, who came sixth in the rankings for this year’s final Ballon d’Or list, trailing fellow France international and winner Karim Benzema, Mane, De Bruyne, Lewandowski and Salah has 23 goals contribution in nineteen games this season.
PSG will play Auxerre in the final matchup before the World Cup this weekend, and the young, ambitious star will be anticipating an amazing World Cup tournament.
