Lionel Messi aims dig at Real Madrid’s UCL win

Lionel Messi has aimed a subtle dig at Real Madrid following their UEFA Champions League win last season.

Real Madrid defeated Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City in the Round of 16, Quarter-finals and Semi-finals respectively before facing Liverpool in the final. Vinicius Jr. got the only goal in the final, as the Los Blancos won the Champions League for the 14th time.

Lionel Messi last one the much-coveted trophy in 2015, when Barcelona defeated Juventus in the final. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner stated that the best team doesn’t always win the UCL.

“The aim [for this season] is clear to everyone. PSG have been eager for a long time to win the Champions League,” Messi told Mexican TV station TUDN. “The elimination last season was very hard because of how it happened because we played two great games against Real Madrid and the tie was lost in small details.

“This is not a typical year, because the World Cup is in between the games, but the main objective of PSG, like every year, is to be able to compete for the Champions League.

“It is a very difficult competition to win because it is not always won by the best team, it is always decided by small details, any mistake leaves you out of a tie, but we are preparing ourselves for when those hard moments come, to be up to the task.”
