After just one season in charge, Christophe Galtier has been dismissed from his role as head coach of Paris Saint-Germain and just moments later, Luis Enrique was confirmed as new manager.
Galtier who previously showcased his prowess during tenures with Lille and Nice, joined PSG on a two-year contract last summer but despite guiding the team to a Ligue 1 title, the club announced his departure through an official statement on Wednesday morning.
A statement on the website read;Â “The Club wishes to highlight his professionalism and commitment, which allowed the Rouge & Bleu to win a historic eleventh France Championship title as well as a Trophee des Champions.”
“Arriving at Paris Saint-Germain on July 5, 2022, Christophe Galtier began by winning with his team the Trophee des Champions on July 31, 2022, beating FC Nantes (4-0) in Tel Aviv.”
“A 5-0 thrashing of Clermont on the first matchday of the season made the capital club take the lead in Ligue 1, to never drop again, becoming the first club to accomplish that feat in the history of the France Championship.”
Paris Saint-Germain won under him its 11th Ligue 1 title, becoming the most decorated club in the history of the France Championship.
Galtier will now be replaced by Luis Enrique, with the Spaniard unveiled yesterday afternoon at a press conference in the club’s new training ground, signing a two-year deal until the summer of 2025.
It is Luis Enrique’s first managerial role after leaving the Spanish national team in December 2022. The former Spain boss’ last club management job was with Barcelona – a post he left in 2017.
