Madrid interested in signing Joao Cancelo from Man city

Real Madrid are interested in Portuguese star Joao Cancelo amidst reports that Ferland Mendy's renewal could be put on hold after player's request is considered too BIG.

With Erling Haaland already on the Los Blancos’ radar after holding talks with his entourage before his move to City, it is believed Joao Cancelo is also a fancied interest by Carlo Ancelotti.

Despite the additions of Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni to the first team squad during the summer transfer window, AS reports that Real Madrid will be looking to reignite their squad even further in the summer transfer window leading to the 2022/23 season.

And the addition of the Portugese star to the Madrid flanks could prove a light weight for Madrid’s defense line-up.

Real Madrid will be looking to bring on his competitiveness and versality at the left back role with rumors that Ferland Mendy’s renewal request is way above what Real will be willing to pay for the French star, hence making any renewal dealings be put on hold.

The 29-year-old full back has a contract at the Etihad until the summer of 2027.

Ancelotti, who already knows the player from his stint at Everton knows the qualities and experience he brings to the team especially in terms of his versatility at both ends of the defense.

He is currently valued at around €65m by Transfermarket.

Cancelo is in his fourth season at City, with 138 appearances, eight goals and 19 assists.
