Mohamed Salah Breaks Premier League Record with Stunning Performance in Liverpool’s Win

Salah was Liverpool's star man against Ipswich

Mohamed Salah made headlines with his second-half brilliance in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Ipswich Town. The 32-year-old Egyptian star scored and assisted to set new Premier League records.

After a goalless first half at Portman Road, Salah set up Diogo Jota’s opener and then scored himself, beating Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton. With this goal, Salah became the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer on opening days, now holding nine goals in these matches.

Additionally, Salah has set the record for the most goal involvements in opening-day fixtures, with 14 in total. Before this game, Salah was tied with football legends Frank Lampard, Alan Shearer, and Wayne Rooney on eight goals.

This match was also Salah’s 350th appearance for Liverpool since his move from Serie A in 2017. He had a standout performance, registering three shots on target, one cross, and two key passes. He made 33 passes with a 75.8% accuracy.

Defensively, Salah committed three fouls but was not booked by referee Tim Robinson. Liverpool’s victory maintains their unbeaten record at Portman Road, where they have not lost a league match, with three wins and two draws. Their last win there was a dominant 6-0 in February 2002.

Ipswich Town’s unbeaten run in opening league matches, which spanned 10 seasons, came to an end. They had previously been unbeaten in their first league game of the season since a 2-1 loss to Reading in 2013-14.

Salah will look to continue his scoring form as Liverpool faces Brentford at Anfield on August 25.
