New “foreign coach” set to get enlarged backroom staff with two locals assisting

The incoming new coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has been rumored to have an enlarged backroom staff that will include two indigenous coaches, according to several reports.

Having managed the senior national team through the AFCON qualifiers, coach Austine Eguavoen is likely expected to resign from the role and return to his previous position in the NFF as the technical director.

What this means in essence is, the NFF have begun their search for the appointment of a new “foreign coach” as was the initial situation before appointing Eguavoen, with expectations of completing the appointment by the end of this month before the world cup qualifiers games against Rwanda in March.

It was gathered that the delay in his appointment is due to the need to pay not just the wages of the proposed coach, but that of his backroom staff which will include two of his assistants, a fitness coach, a video analyst, a goalkeeper’s coach and also another who will work more with the defenders.

The enlarged backroom staff will also include the two coaches of the CHAN team in Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu. Already a sponsor is said to have agreed to pay the wages with the coach expected to be named before the end of this month.
