The NFF executive committee has finally accepted the resignation of Finidi George as Super Eagles coach.
As first reported by BALLGIST, the NFF refused to initially accept the resignation because the letter by Finidi was unsigned.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been in the headlines recently due to the resignation of Finidi George as head coach of the Super Eagles. This decision came after the NFF appointed a Foreign Technical Adviser to oversee the team, a move that did not sit well with Finidi George.
Initially, there were issues in accepting Finidi’s resignation because his letter was unsigned. However, after rectifying this, the resignation notice was finalized and circulated among the NFF executive committee members for their consideration.
In his letter to NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, Finidi George expressed his decision to step down following changes in the Super Eagles’ technical setup. He mentioned that the alterations affected the crew he had personally chosen for the team.
Looking ahead, the NFF is now tasked with finding a new coach before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers kick off in early September. An official statement regarding Finidi George’s resignation and the subsequent plans for appointing a new coach is expected shortly after the Sallah holidays.
The Super Eagles, under Finidi George’s tenure, had seen various developments and strategies implemented to enhance the team’s performance. With preparations for the AFCON qualifiers underway, swiftly securing a replacement who can continue the team’s progress is a pressing need.
This managerial change reflects the ongoing dynamics within Nigerian football as the NFF struggles to maintain a grip on how to keep the Super Eagles competitive and qualify for the 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP.
