Ahead of the senior national team’s 2026 World Cup qualifier game against Lesotho, head coach Jose Peseiro has named a new captain for the national team in the absence of permanent captains Ahmed Musa and William Troost-Ekong, respectively.
A source from Owngoalnigeria revealed the team is set to go ahead to play these fixtures without the presence of prominent figures in the squad. While, leaders like Kenneth Omeruo and Moses Simon are available, they are not expected to start in tonight’s match.
Considering the challenge faced with selection, Peseiro might choose to name Iheanacho and Iwobi as the new Super Eagles captains in the dugout later today.
According to the source, the decision is yet to be made, but it does look likely the mantle is to be placed in the hands of these duos, seeing they are currently the longest-serving players expected to start.
