North London Rivals Clash for Bournemouth’s Nigerian Forward

North London Rivals Clash for Domini Solanke

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are embroiled in a North London derby off the pitch as they compete for the signing of Anglo-Nigerian forward Dominic Solanke. The Gunners are on the hunt for a new striker after their bid for Benjamin Šeško fell short, with the forward opting to extend his stay at RB Leipzig.

Following this setback, Arsenal turned their focus to Viktor Gyökeres. However, Sporting CP’s steep valuation of the Swedish striker has led the Emirates outfit to consider other targets. Solanke, who enjoyed a standout season with AFC Bournemouth, scoring 20 goals, has now emerged as a viable option for Arsenal’s attacking needs.

The 26-year-old’s impressive form has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, with Tottenham Hotspurs also keen on securing his services.  According to reports in CaughtOffside, Arsenal, will be eager to bolster their attacking options and will be hoping to fend off competition from their local rivals.

Solanke’s international future up in the air

While Dominic Solanke has made a name for himself as a Premier League forward, his international career has been more complex. The former Chelsea youth product represented England at various youth levels, culminating in a FIFA U17 World Cup victory in 2017. He earned his senior England cap that same year in a friendly against Brazil but has found it challenging to secure a regular place in the senior squad since then.

Solanke’s public support for Nigeria during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hints at a possible affinity with the Nigerian national team.

As Nigeria looks to strengthen their attacking options, speculation has arisen about Solanke potentially switching his allegiance. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has been closely monitoring his situation, and with Solanke appearing open to exploring his options, there is renewed interest in bringing the Bournemouth striker into the Nigerian fold.
