Former Nigerian international Obafemi Martins has expressed confidence in Ademola Lookman’s ability to shine in the Premier League’s elite clubs.
The Atalanta forward was recently crowned CAF African Player of the Year, an achievement that highlights his remarkable consistency for both club and country.
Speaking to Livescore, Martins praised Lookman’s technical skills and goal-scoring prowess. He likened Lookman’s style of play to his own during his playing days but admitted the younger forward is more refined.
“He’s one of my favorite players. Every time I watch him, I think about how I used to play, but Lookman is probably better in terms of technique,” Martins said.
The former Newcastle United striker believes the 26-year-old is capable of thriving at Premier League powerhouses like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United. However, he cast doubt on Lookman’s suitability for Chelsea.
“The way he plays, he can easily fit into Arsenal, Liverpool, or Manchester United. I don’t know about Chelsea,” Martins added.
Lookman achieved recognition as Africa’s top player follows a stellar year, marked by his exceptional performances for Atalanta and his key role in helping the Super Eagles reach the AFCON final.
With such high praise from a Nigerian legend, speculation about Lookman’s potential return to the Premier League is likely to grow.
