Vieira singles out Gallagher for praise following his display against Arsenal

Patrick Viera’s Crystal Palace put a dent on Arsenal’s top four hopes with an impressive 3 – 0 win at Selhurst Park on Monday night. Goals from Jean-Phillipe Mateta and Jordan Ayew put the host firmly in control of the tie in the first half and a late penalty by Wilfried Zaha sealed the win against a toothless Arsenal side.

After the match, Vieira took out time to praise Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher who played a pivotal role in Palace’s dominance of the Gunners, saying:

‘The energy that he brings to the team – it allows other players to follow him behind.

‘The majority of the time he is the one who starts the pressing and puts on the pressure. That really forces the players behind to follow and to reduce the distances between the lines. He is a massive player.’

‘There are a lot of people talking about the goals he has scored and that is good for the team, but the work ethic and the passion that he is showing every day is something that is a huge plus for us as a team.’

The midfielder’s future is unclear as he is set to return to Chelsea at the end of the season. One thing is certain though, he has raised his stock this season and is tipped to make England’s World Cup squad for Qatar 2022 if he continues to impress.
