Chelsea captain Reece James is reportedly eyeing a move to Barcelona in 2025. The La Liga giants are interested in strengthening their squad and see the 24-year-old as a potential addition.
James, who signed a six-year contract with Chelsea last season, is allegedly considering his options despite being under contract until 2028. According to FootballTransfers via Football Espana, his agents are already exploring possible destinations. A major factor in his decision is the weather, as he prefers a warmer city.
Barcelona fits that criteria, and they are open to the idea of signing him. However, financial issues prevented them from adding a right-back last summer, so this deal won’t be easy.
Moreover, James’s injury history raises concerns. He has played only 35 matches over the last three seasons, with none this campaign. Barcelona will be cautious about bringing in another injury-prone player.
Unless Chelsea decides to cut ties due to his ongoing fitness issues and looks to offload his significant wages, they are unlikely to make it easy for James to leave. His long contract and importance to the team mean Chelsea will want to retain him for now.
