Ronald Araujo defends surgery decision amidst national team criticism

Ronald Araujo injury
Ronald Araujo has come out to explain his decision regarding treatment for the injury he sustained during the international break.

Ronald Araujo suffered a thigh injury whilst on international duty with Uruguay and has opted to undergo a surgery. Recovery through the surgery is estimated to take around 3 months, which makes his participation in the World Cup very unlikely.

His decision to undergo surgery instead of a more conservative approach has been criticized by fans of the Uruguay national team. They believe that a more conservative approach would have increased his chances of featuring in the World Cup.

Addressing the situation on his Twitter account, the Barcelona defender said:

“I want to make clear the reasons for which I took my decision, in order to avoid speculation.”

“I love my country and I love my national team.”

“After consulting the matter with various professionals, we decided that the best thing for it is a surgical intervention. Here it is not about choosing one option or another, it is about health and returning to 100% as soon as possible.”

“On a personal level these are difficult moments and I would like to take the chance to thank everyone for the support I was receiving. With faith and hard work I will give the best of myself to return as quickly as possible. A hug and blessings!”

Sport believe that Araujo still has a small chance of featuring in the World Cup considering best case scenarios. However, it is very unlikely. The young defender has had his progress curtailed by injuries, and is yet to play an entire season fully fit.
