Currently on loan at AC Milan, Sergino Dest has struggled in recent years despite showing his potential as a top talent during his time at Ajax.
Reports suggest that West Ham are interested in signing Dest as Fabrizio Romano suggests that the 22-year-old is not part of Barcelona’s long-term plans. However, Romano has dismissed rumors of Barca trying to sign Reece James from Chelsea and talks with Jeremie Frimpong seem to have hit a brick wall with the club focusing on other priorities.
This presents an intriguing opportunity for West Ham should they pursue their interest in Dest.
“Barcelona won’t be signing Reece James from Chelsea – he only recently signed a new contract and is considered untouchable,” Romano said.
“For Sergino Dest they will look for new solution, I don’t see him staying but we will see in the summer. The market for Barca depends on Financial Fair Play; for example I said three weeks ago that they met with the agent of Jeremie Frimpong but now the priorities are different, the right-back is something that will be decided later in the window.”
Whether or not Barcelona signs a new right-back this summer, it makes sense for them to try to offload players like Dest given their Financial Fair Play difficulties.
