South Africa coach Desiree Ellis has fired a bold warning to the Super Falcons ahead of their WAFCON 2024 semi-final showdown in Casablanca on Tuesday.
Ellis, who led Banyana Banyana to their first-ever WAFCON title in Morocco three years ago, believes her team has the blueprint to stop the dominant Nigerians.
Nigeria vs South Africa – Clash of WAFCON Titans
While the Super Falcons have been ruthless so far—scoring nine goals and conceding none—South Africa had to dig deep, beating Senegal in a penalty shootout after a tense goalless draw.
Despite Nigeria’s impressive run, Ellis reminded fans of their recent history: South Africa beat Nigeria 2-1 in their last WAFCON meeting. They went on to win the title in 2022, also in Morocco.
Ellis Confident of Another Upset
“There’s a fire, a collective memory,” Ellis told cafonline.com. “We know what this match means. We know what it takes to beat Nigeria.”
