Henry Onyekuru Completes Transfer to Turkish Club Gençlerbirliği
Super Eagles winger Henry Onyekuru has officially joined Turkish Super Lig side Gençlerbirliği on a two-year deal.
The 28-year-old sealed the move after ending his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Fahya last month.
Onyekuru enjoyed a decent spell in the Saudi Pro League, where he scored 10 goals in 29 appearances last season. However, he opted for a return to Turkey, a familiar territory where he previously impressed.
A Familiar Destination for Onyekuru
The pacey forward is no stranger to Turkish football, having previously played for Galatasaray, where he won the Turkish Super Lig and Turkish Cup in the 2018/19 season, as well as for Adana Demirspor.
Onyekuru began his career at ASPIRE Academy in Qatar before making a name for himself at KAS Eupen in Belgium. His performances earned him moves to Everton, Anderlecht, AS Monaco, and Olympiacos, highlighting his experience across Europe’s top leagues.
Fresh Challenge at Gençlerbirliği
Speaking after completing the move, Onyekuru expressed excitement about the new chapter of his career and hopes to play a key role in helping Gençlerbirliği secure a strong finish in the upcoming 2025/26 Turkish Super Lig season.
The Red and Black will rely on his versatility, speed, and goal-scoring ability as they aim to challenge for European qualification.
