“There are scarier defenders than Van Dijk” – Toney

Ivan Toney dismisses Virgil van Dijk as “too nice” and claims that there are “scarier defenders out there.”

The Brentford striker – who has been selected for Gareth Southgate’s England team, named Van Dijk in his ideal five-a-side squad.

However, he seemed to be making a sly dig at the Dutchman by saying that he is “too nice” and that “there are scarier defenders out there.”

The 26-year-old added Ederson, Frank Onyeka, Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero in his five-a-side team alongside Van Dijk.

Speaking to InchByInch, he said: “I’ll get Van Dijk in there, definitely.”

When asked if Van Dijk is a player was a player he feared, he responded saying:

“Nah, I don’t think, he’s too nice.

“There’s scarier defenders out there, they look scarier as well.”

The former Peterborough and Newcastle United player scored 12 goals in the Premier League last season.

And he has already contributed five goals this season, earning him an international call-up as a result of Southgate praising his strong play.

“Every match, Brentford fans can see what he brings to our team, all over the pitch, and I hope England fans get a chance to see it as well.

“To have someone in the England squad is a huge achievement for everyone at the club. To have an English player, at an English club, in the England squad, given the competition for those places, is a moment for us to cherish.

“I hope he does enough to get a chance to earn a cap. It will be a top, top day for everyone at Brentford if that happens.”
