Tottenham Hotspur’s forward Heung-Min Son to undergo eye surgery

Tottenham Hotspur's Heung-Min Son is set to undergo eye surgery, casting doubt on his ability to compete in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Heung-min Son suffered a head injury during Tottenham‘s thrilling Champions League victory over Marseille on Tuesday after colliding with Chancel Mbemba in a scary challenge that could see the South Korean’s World Cup hopes crippled.

Due to the timing towards the tournament’s first game, the forward might not be featuring in this year’s competition as it comes too soon for his recovery

Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye, as confirmed by a statement on the club’s official website.

“We can confirm that Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye.”

“The South Korea international suffered the injury during the first half of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League victory at Olympique Marseille.”

“Following surgery, Son will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff and we shall update supporters further in due course.”

He could miss Spurs’ next three games before the break, which include Premier League matches against Liverpool and Leeds, as well as a Carabao Cup trip to Nottingham Forest.
