Paul Onuachu’s parent club Southampton may have returned to the Premier League, but top Turkish club Trabzonspor now plan to keep the striker.
Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has provided an update on Southampton center forward Paul Onuachu, whose future continues to be the subject of speculation in the summer transfer window.
The Nigeria international spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor, where he registered nineteen goals involvements in twenty-one outings in the Turkish Super Lig to help them qualify for the Europa League.
One of Trabzonspor’s main objectives in the summer transfer window is to bring Onuachu back to Trabzon, but they could be priced out of a move with Southampton valuing the striker at fifteen million euros.
Trabzonspor are aiming to secure another loan deal for the Super Eagles star as a permanent transfer appears financially out of reach for them.
To sweeten the proposed deal, the Black Sea Storm have offered to transfer two of their players to Göztepe, a club where Sport Republic holds a 70 percent stake.
In quotes relayed by 61Saat, Ertuğrul Doğan said in an interview:
“Paul Onuachu conveyed that he wanted to stay on our team in the meeting he had with us and our coach.
“The player also conveyed this request to his own club. We want to loan him and the talks are ongoing. We also have alternatives regarding the center forward.
“It is not that we will only buy one center forward, maybe we will buy two. We want to add Onuachu to our squad on loan again. This transfer seems like it will take a while.
“We want to keep him and negotiations are continuing,” he said.
Discussions will be on another loan deal and a permanent transfer.
Super Eagles striker Onuachu scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 25 matches last season on loan from Southampton.
Trabzonspor finished third in the Super Lig and will feature in the UEFA Europa League in the coming season.
