UEFA Champions League: Sporting Lisbon to face disciplinary action for arriving late to kick off

Sporting Lisbon is set to face punishment over later arrival to Stade Velodrome, L'Equipe reports.

L’Équipe have reported that the late arrival of the Sporting bus at the Stade Velodrome, which led to the postponement of Tuesday’s Champions League match against Olympique de Marseille by 15 minutes will likely result in a fine for the Portuguese club.

The late arrival of the Sporting bus at the Stade Velodrome forced UEFA to postpone the kick-off of the match against Olympique de Marseille, originally scheduled for 6.45pm on Tuesday, by 15 minutes.

The European body’s regulations state that players must arrive 75 minutes before the game begins, but the Portuguese team arrived at the stadium in Marseille just around 40 minutes before kickoff.

In addition, the Sporting Lisbon players were late in leaving their dressing room, making it impossible to start at 7pm.

A disciplinary case will certainly be opened after Igor Tudor (Marseille’s Coach) and Marseille players were seen arguing with officials in the tunnel before the game, prompting some jeering when the Sporting players finally came out for kick-off.
