Zürich are on the road to face Arsenal for a UEFA Europa League final group-stage match at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, with the hosts looking to secure a place in the knockout round.
Arsenal were defeated for the first time in the competition this season in their last group-stage match, losing 2-0 when they travelled to PSV and Zürich’s last group-stage match saw them triumph 2-1 over Bodø/Glimt at home.
The English team are atop the group on 12 points, while Zürich’s three points place them fourth. The home side are currently in position for a place in the knockout round, while the visitors are in line to be eliminated from European competition.
Elsewhere in the group, PSV are second on 10 points, well-positioned to advance to the knockout round play-offs. Bodø/Glimt are in danger of a transfer to the Conference League knockout round play-offs, sitting third on four points.
Arsenal won the first group stage meeting between the teams 2-1 at Kybunpark on 8 September. Marquinhos struck first for the Gunners in the 16th minute and Eddie Nketiah was also on target. Mirlind Kryeziu scored Zürich’s lone goal in the 44th minute from the penalty spot.
Nketiah has caught the eye for Arsenal in Europa League play and the striker leads the club with two goals, one of those having been the crucial first of the match meanwhile, visitors Zürich have been led by five players who have each scored once in the current Europa League campaign.
