Nigerian and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen is reportedly under watch from several top clubs but reports have it Jurgen Klopp sent out scouts to watch the Super Eagles goal poacher, when he played for Nigeria against Saudi Arabia in an international friendly match in Portugal last week.
The report suggests the Red side of Merseyside has now joined fellow Premier League teams, Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign one of Europe’s finest quality players.
Osimhen, who did not score in the match against Saudi Arabia, has been an issue of concern for Napoli since leading them to Serie A triumph last season with 26 league goals. The 24-year-old was taken off the match in the 59th minute after coming down with a Hamstring tear at the rear of his thigh.Â
A report from the Sun states clearly that the Liverpool boss sent one of his networks to watch the 24-year-old in action despite already knowing of his brilliance.
Osimhen has added to his 31 goals from last season with six in eight Serie A games this season under new manager Rudi Garcia. However, the duo are not seeing eye-to-eye, despite the forward expressing his love for the people and city of Naples after the TikTok controversy.
Back in September, the former Lille player reportedly deleted any signs of Napoli off his Instagram profile while considering legal action.
After missing a penalty against Bologna, Victor Osimhen was mocked in a viral trend on the official club TikTok.
The trend involved an edited high-pitch voice calling for a penalty to be given with the caption ‘gimme penalty, please, while showing a clip of Osimhen’s claims, ending as he fired wide of the target – to the confusion of fans and fury of the striker.
Arsenal were first linked to the forward back in 2022, when a figure of £70 million was mentioned, with his current contract expiring in the summer of 2025. However, big-spending Chelsea have lately been linked, with fans calling for Didier Drogba to work as an agent after he expressed admiration for the striker.
Manchester United were thought to be ‘stepping up’ in their own interest earlier in the year, with Erik ten Hag reportedly keeping an eye on his performances.
If Liverpool were to sign Osimhen, they will most likely have to break their transfer record beating a number of other clubs for his signature – as well as Arsenal and Chelsea, who have showed keen interest.
