The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their WAFCON 2024 quarter-final clash against Zambia, as forward Chioma Okafor has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament with a hand injury.
According to ballgist.com, the 20-year-old striker will be sidelined for up to 12 days, meaning she will miss both the quarter-final, semi-final and a potential final in Morocco.
A Rising Star Missing Out
Okafor, who plays for the University of Connecticut, was a surprise inclusion in Randy Waldrum’s squad for the tournament.
The forward, born to a Nigerian father and Malawian mother, was eligible to represent both nations but opted for Nigeria just before the competition.
Unfortunately, she has yet to make an appearance for the Super Falcons at this WAFCON before being forced out with injury.
Nigeria vs Zambia Quarter-Final
Despite Okafor’s absence, Nigeria remain confident ahead of their quarter-final showdown with the Copper Queens of Zambia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Friday (today).
The Super Falcons will rely on in-form stars like Rinsola Babajide and Asisat Oshoala to fire them into the final.
