Weekend Predictions – Premier League

Southampton vs Manchester United:

Southampton came from a goal behind to register a 2 – 1 win away at the King Power Stadium. The win – which was the team’s first in their last nine Premier League matches has helped ease the pressure on Ralph Hassenhuttl and the Austrian will be keen to build from that performance when they host Manchester United on Saturday.

Manchester United got their first points of the Premier League season with a 2 – 1 win over Liverpool. Erik ten Hag had come under scrutiny following their 2 – 1 and 4 – 0 loss to Brighton and Brentford respectively, but his side showed their mettle in the win over the Reds. The Dutch coach will be hoping they can build on the performance when they face Southampton.

Prediction: We predict that there will be more than one goal in the match as both teams are very likely to score.

Manchester City vs Crystal Palace:

Manchester City were held to a 3 – 3 draw in their last match against Newcastle in a keenly contested encounter. The Premier League Champions now sit second on seven points just behind Arsenal and will be looking to bounce back in their home match against Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace have had some of the toughest fixtures to start the season, but have managed to get four points from a possible nine. In their first match, they succumbed to a 2 – 0 loss at the hands of Arsenal, but drew 1 – 1 against Liverpool in their next league match. Last week, they got their first win of the season against Villa as Wilfried Zaha scored twice in their 3 – 1 win. However, the match against City might be their biggest test all season.

Prediction: Despite the organization of the Palace team, Manchester City should have enough to take all three points.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth:

The Reds have had a terrible start to the season – drawing their first two matches and losing the third to Manchester United on Monday night. Jurgen Klopp’s side have been ravaged by injuries and the suspension to Darwin Nunez has worsened the situation. If Liverpool fail to defeat Bournemouth, it will be only the second time in their PL history that they have failed to win any of their first four league matches.

Bournemouth on the other hand have suffered back-to-back defeats – conceding seven in the process with no goals scored. In fairness, they have faced two of the PL’s most in form teams in two of their last three but must work to get results if they are to avoid relegation this season.

Prediction: Despite Liverpool’s dip in form, we expect the Reds to get a comfortable victory over Bournemouth.

Chelsea vs Leicester City:

Chelsea started the season with a win over Everton, but a controversial draw with Tottenham and the 3 – 0 loss to Leeds last time out have raised eyebrows. Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off for a second bookable offence in the match against Leeds, but Mateo Kovacic is back in training. Thomas Tuchel will expect his side to bounce back in this match after an Edouard Mendy error put them on the back foot early on at Elland Road.

On the other hand, Leicester City have failed to win in the Premier League this season. Brendan Rodgers side began the season with a 2 – 2 draw against Brenford before losing to both Arsenal and Southampton respectively. James Maddison has been their best player so far this season – scoring twice and providing one assist. However, the midfielder is a doubt for the match after suffering a knock in training.

Prediction: We expect Chelsea to get their second win of the PL season.

Arsenal vs Fulham:

The Gunners are top of the log with three wins out of three. Mikel Arteta’s wards have performed beyond expectations so far this season but Fulham presents a different test to the Gunners.

Fulham have five points from a possible nine this season with draws against Liverpool and Wolves, and a win over Brentford last time out. Marco Silva’s side have shown desire and determination in their matches so far and there is a belief that Fulham will remain in the top division by the start of next season.

Prediction: We expect a narrow win for Arsenal.
