Midfielder James Arinze will train with the rest of the U19 squad, who have just returned from the USA after taking part in the international training tournament, the Dallas Cup.

Paul Onuachu, Frank Onyeka and Raphael Onyedika all came through from FC Ebedei to Midtjylland and on to bigger leagues across Europe.

James Inyere Arinze joined FC Ebedei two years ago. Back then, he played as a striker, but we quickly noticed aspects in the young talent’s game that indicated he should be retrained as a midfielder.

Now, FC Midtjylland has also recognized his development to such an extent that he has transitioned to Danish football.

“It is well seen by the coaching staff at FC Ebedei that we are dealing here with a midfielder – and not a striker,” said Jonas Dal, who is responsible for FCM’s collaboration with FC Ebedei.

Recently, James has built on his defensive skills, and the more he has got used to the midfield role, the more defensively oriented he has become – without compromising on his offensive mindset.”

He added: “James has a strong vision for the game. He is good with both right and left foot, so he can go in several directions and distribute the ball to both sides. In addition, James has a big motor and he can run really long meters.

“We are now working on him becoming even better at making the deep runs to stretch the defenders’ back chain, just as he has the potential to be able to score even more goals.”

Arinze himself said he is excited to join the four-time Danish champions.

“It means a lot to me, and it has been a goal since I was very small. Now it’s about working even harder so I can achieve more of my goals,” he said.

“My biggest dream is to end up in the Premier League, but before then I know that there are many steps that need to be taken.”
