Manchester City signed Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer despite interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.
After joining Manchester City, former Real Madrid defender Fernando Sanz claimed that there is a clause that permits Haaland to join Madrid by the end of the 2023/24 season.
In addition to this, Haaland’s father Alfie Haaland stated that his son would like to play in La Liga in the future.
“I think Erling wants to test out his capabilities in every league,” he said in Viaplay’s new documentary, Haaland: The Big Decision. “Then he can stay in every league for three to four years maximum.
“He could have two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half in England, and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?
“We do not know if it will be like that, but I think he would like to test his abilities in the big leagues.”
However, Pep Guardiola has responded to these claims saying:
“It’s not true, he has no release clause for Real Madrid or any other team,” he said after Man City’s 5-0 over Kobenhavn, in which Haaland got two goals.
“It’s not true, what can I say? I have the feeling he is incredibly happy here. We will try with him and the others to make him happy.”
