Armando Broja started Chelsea’s friendly match against Aston Villa but had to be substituted after a collision with Ezri Konsa.
According to Evening Standard, Broja is set to undergo surgery on his knee to repair his torn ACL after which a rehabilitation programme follows.
The nature of his injury and recovery time means the Albanian is out until at least the end of the 2022/23 season.
After a successful loan spell with Southampton last season, Armando Broja made 12 appearances in the Premier League – 10 as a substitute, scoring just once.
Chelsea are currently 8th in the Premier League and will have to fight for a place in the Champions League without the injured Broja.
They have been linked with a move to Portugal and AC Milan forward Rafael Leao.
Speaking after Portugal’s 1 – 0 loss to Morocco, Leao said: “I will speak to AC Milan about my contract situation once the World Cup is over. We had a positive meeting with [technical director] Paolo Maldini before the World Cup, it was a good one – we’ll enter into details after the break.”
Chelsea face AFC Bournemouth on the 27th of December in their next league game.
