Inter Milan plan mega summer swoop for Roma’s Chris Smalling

Inter Milan out for a Skriniar''s replacement, have targeted Chris Smalling, whose contract with the Giallorossi is set to expire in June.

Inter Milan are reportedly weighing up a summer transfer swoop for Roma ace Chris Smalling.

The former Manchester United defender is in his fourth season with the Giallorossi but is set to run out of his contract in June. Reports say the Englishman is currently unhappy with the terms he is being offered to sign a new deal.

Roma are currently only willing to give Smalling a one-year extension, and they are yet to meet his wage demands.

Behind the scenes, a number of clubs are monitoring the process and it is believed Inter Milan have been in the shadows of the contract discussion between both parties.

The Nerazurri is keen to take charge of Smalling’s situation and are set to offer him a bumper two-year deal at the end of his contract with Roma, with time running out as they seek to replace Milan Skriniar [Calciomercato].

Milan Skriniar, who has been heavily linked with PSG and is rumored to have agreed to join the French champions ahead of next season, would see out the rest of his Inter contract to enable his move to PSG less difficult.

Smalling has excelled in Italy since moving to Roma from Manchester United on loan in 2019, before signing a permanent deal the following year.

The 33-year-old has started all but one of Roma’s league games this term, chipping in with three goals, including the winner against Inter back in October.

Losing him to a rival club would be a major blow for Roma, but there remains a chance that he could stay at the club if they agree to offer him a two-year deal or longer.
