The growth of Saudi Arabian football has captured the attention of several prominent football figures in recent months.
Ballon d’Or winners Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema have made the highly-publicized move to the Middle East, securing massive contracts in the process.
However, Speaking during Channel 4’s coverage of England’s resounding 7-0 victory over North Macedonia, Gerrard disclosed that he turned down an enticing offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq.
“I was invited over there to look at a potential offer, which I did. I have been analyzing that over the last couple of days. But, as we stand right now, I won’t be taking that offer up,” he explained.
Before his tenure at Aston Villa, the 43-year-old Steven Gerrard led Rangers to their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade in 2021.
Although Gerrard joined Aston Villa in November 2021, his stint was short-lived as he was dismissed in October of the following year. Despite his departure from Villa, it seems that Saudi Arabia will not be his next destination.
