Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne discusses his recovery hopes amid his side's Premier League title battle with Arsenal.
Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has been sidelined since the opening week of the Premier League campaign in which he sustained a serious hamstring issue during his side’s match against Burnley.
But the midfielder has now revealed that he hopes to return to the field in the early part of 2024 to help his team fight for the title.
When asked on Sky Sports when he is hoping to get back, the 32-year-old replied, “Hopefully not long after the New Year.”
City currently find themselves second in the Premier League table, one point behind Arsenal, who went top of the pile yesterday thanks to a 1-0 victory away to Brentford. The north London outfit secured all three points thanks to a last-gasp Kai Havertz winner.
The German international headed home Bukayo Saka’s pin-point cross after the former Chelsea playmaker had drifted into the box unmarked.
After the full-time whistle, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was full-of-praise for the summer signing Kai Havertz, who has endured a difficult first few months at the club.
“If things come easy, you don’t value them,” Arteta said when asked about Havertz.
“If things came easy then he wouldn’t have got the reception he got today with everybody hugging him and telling him how much we love him.
“It’s for a reason, it’s because of the way he behaves in difficult situations. He’s an example for all of us to do what you have to do when you have difficulties.
“It’s a great example for the team. We cannot be happier that a big player like him won the game for the team.”
