Bayern Munich had their eyes on Chelsea‘s Mykhailo Mudryk during the January transfer window as they looked to bolster their flanks in the wake of Kingsley Coman’s knee injury.
Despite the allure of adding the Ukrainian winger to their ranks, the Bavarian powerhouses opted for Bryan Zaragoza, bringing him in on loan from Granada ahead of a permanent move in the summer.
With Mudryk’s journey at Chelsea proving more challenging than anticipated, the whispers of Bayern’s interest spark conversations on what could have been for the young star.
Since his high-profile transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea for a whopping £89 million ($112m) back in January 2023, Mudryk’s expected impact has yet to fully materialize.
In his tenure with the Blues, he’s netted a modest four goals and contributed just as many assists over 41 appearances. Game time has been a struggle, with starts becoming increasingly elusive for the winger.
Mudryk’s mega move, which saw Chelsea edge out Arsenal in a fierce bidding war, hasn’t quite delivered the bang for the buck, leaving fans and pundits alike pondering his future.
Despite the turbulence, Mudryk’s stats this season — three goals and two assists — show glimmers of the talent that made him such a sought-after prospect.
As Chelsea gears up for their upcoming clash against Wolves, all eyes will be on Mudryk, hoping he can seize the opportunity for more minutes on the pitch and begin to turn his fortunes around.
