Gift Orban scores for Lyon to cruise to Coupe de France final

Lyon will now battle either PSG or Rennes – who plays each other tonight – on May 25 for the French Cup trophy and will be gunning for a first major trophy since 2012.

Lyon faced Valenciennes in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France, with both teams eyeing a place in the final. Valenciennes aimed to make history with a victory, while Lyon sought to keep their cup dreams alive.

The Les Gones dominance paid off in the second half, as they asserted control over the match. Captain Lacazette converted a penalty to give Lyon the lead before doubling it with another goal soon after. 

Gift Orban was then lately subbed in for Alexandre Lacazette and however, went on to score Lyon’s third goal three minutes after his introduction in the 72^nd minute.

The striker coolly turned in a squared ball from the left to seal a comfortable win against the struggling second-division club.

It was Orban’s second goal of the season for Lyon since his January signing.

Orban’s goal sealed Lyon’s place in the Coupe de France final, confirming their dominance over Valenciennes. Despite missing a late opportunity to score a second goal, Lyon emerged victorious with a commanding 3-0 win.

With the final beckoning, Lyon will look to maintain their momentum and clinch the Coupe de France title.
