Newly signed Manchester United forward, Joshua Zirkzee has revealed how close he came to playing for the senior national team of Nigeria after a meeting with former coach of the senior team of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr.
Rohr was the coach who had reached out to his entourage, when he tried to get players of Nigeria descent to pledge their allegiance to the senior national team of Nigeria.
At the time, he was s a new signing for serie A side, Bologna, having started his career at Bayern Munich, where he got attracted to the German manager, who sold him the idea of what he intends to do with him in the Super Eagles setupo at the time.
The young scorer who scored 13 goals for Bolgna last season said he met with Rohr very early into his club career at Bayern Munich and revealed what he told the coach,
“I was very young when I met with the coach of Nigeria. Around 18 or so and he told me what his plans with me in the team looks like and I asked for time to make a decision,” Zirkzee said.
“My desire has always been to play for the Netherlands and I am glad it finally came to pass at the Euros but I am glad for the approach from Nigeria,” her concluded.
